Why Ayurveda?

At Farmtrue we're inspired to eat, live and act with more care.

Originating in India, Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of health and healing. Ayurveda translates literally as the “wisdom of life” and is a holistic approach that provides the tools for maintaining our well-being. It teaches that through diet and lifestyle, we are able to balance all aspects of our life experience – body, mind, and spirit. The teachings of Ayurveda include seasonal and mindful eating practices and offer a greater understanding of ourselves and nature, and how the qualities of what we take in through our 5 senses can either complement or aggravate our mind/body type.

Ayurveda offers us tools in the form of food and lifestyle choices for maintaining health and overall well being that are uniquely tailored to one’s unique mind/body type. For example- getting adequate sleep, managing exercise that is specific to your own body, and maintaining an appropriate diet that is not only specific to you but also changes with the seasons. A primary component of Ayurveda is honoring seasonal changes and adjusting our diet and routines accordingly. It is through these food and lifestyle choices that we can nourish, rejuvenate, and heal. When body and mind are healthy and balanced, we are truly able to have the best possible experience of life.

Three Pillars of Health: Food, Sleep, Management of Energy

All Ayurvedic healthy lifestyle routines aim to support and balance the above three areas of our life. Healthy habits around food consist of eating a seasonally appropriate diet for your unique body/mind type and eating mindfully. Sleeping habits are focused on getting the proper amount, not too much or too little. Managing our energy, consists of recognizing stressors in our life that can be depleting and incorporating a nourishing diet with time to slow down and restore.

Mindful Eating

Healthy Food Practices are not only about what we eat, but also, how we eat. Both are necessary to ensure healthy digestion. Healthy eating practices include: eating slowly in a calm atmosphere, chewing food well, eating without the distraction of the TV or computer, eating warm, cooked food, stopping before you are too full, and taking food in with a mindset that you are nourishing your body.

Managing Stress

Nourishing food and self care practices assist the body in preparing for and recovering from stress. Foods ghee, sesame seeds, almonds, and golden milk support the body's ability to withstand practices such as self-massage, spending time in nature, slowing down, and meditating are all tools for preventing depletion and burnout.
