The spring season can bring about several challenges: congestion, allergies, coughs, brain fog, mood swings and colds, all while shaking off the cobwebs of winter. Thankfully, Ayurveda has many suggestions to support us during this seasonal transition which include the use of a neti pot and Nasya Oil. We have curated ghee-based Nasya Oil to help balance the qualities of the spring season.
You may be familiar with the neti pot, but did you know that it’s most effective when followed by Nasya oil? Nasya is the sniffing of herbalized oil in the nostrils. It lubricates the nasal passages after using the neti pot so that the sinuses don’t dry out. For this reason, it can ease seasonal allergies and congestion. It feeds the healthy microbes within the sinus cavity, supporting healthy immunity and as a cleansing effect. According to Ayurveda, Nasya also affects the body on a more subtle level by benefiting emotional health and memory.
Our Nasya oil is made with our organic, grass-fed ghee, sesame oil, brahmi, calamus, rose, and rosemary. Rosemary is an invigorating herb that combats sluggishness, serving as an antidote to mental fatigue and forgetfulness. It is also antibacterial, energizing, and uplifting, all of the qualities that needed during this heavy, dense, cold, season.
Begin with the neti pot. Use 8oz of purified, warm water with ¼ tsp of non-iodized salt. Place the spout in one nostril as you stand over the bathroom sink or while in the shower and tilt your head slightly to the other side. Do not swallow and breathe through your mouth. Allow the solution to drain from your nose out the opposite nostril. As it runs out, you can blow gently to remove any mucus that is in your nasal passageway. Repeat 2-3 times for each nostril. When finished, bend at the waist and forcefully exhale through both nostrils for a final cleanse.
After use of the neti, lubricate your nasal passages with Farmtrue Nasya to purify the senses. You can warm the nasya oil by placing in a cup of warm water. Next, tilt your head back or lay on the edge of a couch or sofa. Place 2-4 drops of oil in each nostril and sniff. It is normal to taste the oil in the back of your throat or have some drop out of your nose a minute or two afterward. Nasya is not recommended for children under 13.
